The Crow by James O'Barr

The Crow

The Crow Special Edition, July 2011

This is a large graphic novel with B&W glossy pages collecting all of the original Crow comics. The book itself is a half inch thick.

I'm a huge fan of the Crow movie from 1994, starring Brandon Lee. I had also always adored James O'Barr's artwork and wanted to read his comics but they eluded me for many years. In 2011 I finally got a copy of the The Crow Special Edition, which includes new scenes and artwork that were previously unpublished. I read the whole book cover to cover in one sitting. I have no words to describe how remarkable this graphic novel is. It just totally drew me in and I had to keep reading. Just an amazing book! The mood and feel of the story is so vivid, I absolutely love James O'Barr's artwork!

In May 2018 I met James O'Barr for the second time at Ottawa Comic Con. He signed my copy of the Special Edition book as well as one of my Crow action figures. He also kindly allowed me to take this photo. On his previous visit to Ottawa Comic Con I had purchase a piece of his original artwork, which is seen framed in the above photo of my collection along with the book that he signed. When I complimented his artwork and told him how amazing I thought his comic is, he humbly replied "Oh, I'm just learning". He is a truly a remarkable artist.
