Quasar

Quasar, 60 issues

Quasar, issue 26, Sept 1991

Quasar, issue 29, Dec 1991

This is a very interesting cover! Gender bending to this extent was quite risky back in the early 90's. Speaking as a gay man, this cover definitely has gay vibes to it as does some of the artwork inside the comic, which is very suggestive in a gay baiting sort of way, not to mention that Quasar is quite gorgeous to begin with. However he doesn't actually become pregnant or give birth in this issue. Quasar is simply told by a woman that she wants him to become the father of her child. Again, as a gay guy, I thought this was a major, anti-climatic let down. Of course, it had to be too good to be true, but still, considering the times, kudos to Marvel for even going this far with it! It's also interesting to note that Quasar's suggestive "walk on the wild side" doesn't seem to have hurt the series, as it went on for another 31 issues.

Quasar, issue 47, June 1993
At some point along the way they changed Quasar's hair style, which I never liked. They cut off his gorgeous long blond locks!

Quasar, issue 49, Aug 1993, and Quasar, issue 50, Sept 1993
The cover for issue 50 is printed on thicker card-like paper and has a hologram pattern as the background. Very cool!
